SANA carried out its first medical/educational mission for the Holy Month of Ramadan in Bab Al-Tabbaneh with MSF today. Accompanying SANA was Khawla Saada, a 4th year midwifery student at the Lebanese University, Tripoli.

It was a special day today, International Women’s Day, and SANA had a most memorable celebration. SANA’s team handed white roses to all the mothers seen in the clinic today: women who truly exemplify sacrifice and resilience… In addition, SANA’s team got to participate is a special celebratory session that the fantastic MSF team had put together where the health care providers and counselors held an open discussion with the patients to discuss their various medical and non-medical concerns and where they addressed all the patient’s questions.
Â
It was an intensely packed clinic day with patients ranging in age between 15 and 36 years. As was our last impression at Bab Al Tabbaneh, the tremendous needs of the patients seen was overpowering. The team systematically evaluated all patients and it was Dr. Ghina Mahmoud who carried out the scans under the guidance of Dr. Reem S. Abu-Rustum. Her skill in applying the ISUOG 6-steps was quite impressive: she effortlessly scanned the patients, identified all the fetal structures and accurately carried out the biometric measurements. SANA redated 47% of the patients seen.
Several patients required follow up and care and this was all organized by the able MSF team…

At the end of another rewarding day, the team headed back home filled with images of appreciative patients and eager to continue to intensify SANA’s presence in Bab Al Tabbaneh…
