It was another memorable day today where SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum returned to Baalbek a medical/educational mission with MSF.
Â
It was a beautiful day and our roads were filled with Spring blossoms wherever one looked. After the long drive, the day commenced with a didactic session given by Dr. Reem to MSF’s Dr. Huda at the MSF Baalbek clinic. The main topic covered today wsd evaluating the fetus all through the first trimester. Dr. Huda shared with Dr. Reem her impressions as to the positive impact this training has had on her practice and showed her images of a fetus with a cardiac abnormality.
Â
Subsequently, the long day commenced with Dr. Huda scanning all the patients under the guidance of Dr. Reem. All patients seen today were in the 3rd to 9th months of pregnancy.
Â
Dr. Huda carried out the scans in a systematic manner and demonstrated such skill in obtaining the optimal biometric planes. In addition, the team concentrated on the importance of the 2D sweep to screen for major structural abnormalities and to obatian the basic cardiac views. As always, MSF’s midwife Rana was with the team assisting with data entry and ensuring that plans of care were taken care of.
Â
At the end of another gratifying day, plans were made for the next visit and the teams headed back along their respective opposite routes back home…
